ARTISTS STATEMENT

I think women's sexuality has been masculinised for centuries, and especially, more recently, as portrayed in the media. It's too much about appearance, image and performance. I wanted to express my sensuality and sexuality in my real femininity, and not in relation to anyone else. So for me dancing naked in the garden, playing in the trees, rolling in autumn leaves, covering myself in flowers, gardening naked, are all about how I feel most natural, most me, in my skin. All of that is sensual and sexual, to me. The essence of the feminine, whole body sexuality. I also wanted to show, in our ageist culture, that a mature, older woman's body can still be beautifully sensual and sexual.

I like to taste: juicy fruits, tantalisingly aromatic foods, clean skin, and of course, chocolate.
I like to feel: free to be myself. Silky clothes. Fresh sheets. Warm skin. My breathing.
favourite part of my body: My wild curly hair: it's as uncontrollable and individual as I am.
favourite part of someone else's body: The incredibly soft skin of the inner arm.
Why i shot myself: To show my expression of my sexuality, my body, my sensuality, unrelated to anyone else's expectations and perceptions.
who I'd least like to see shoot themselves: Can't think of anyone. This is fun and liberating for all women.
who I'd most like to see shoot themselves: Mature women showing their beauty.

Most outrageous thing I have done: Too many to tell, mostly involving dancing, nakedness and nature.
Bands I like: Peruquois, Sacred Earth, Deva Premal and Miten, Snatum Kaur, Eva Cassidy, Ella and Louis Armstrong.
Books I like: Novels with strong female characters, non-fiction which inspires me. Current pick: Radical passion by Andrew Harvey.
Films I like: Are many and varied. Anything beautiful, gentle, wise and witty, with strong female leads and a good story line. Think 'Under a Tuscan Sun'.
