ARTISTS STATEMENT

I've always been comfortable in my own skin and don't subscribe to the typical beauty standards of being the 'right' weight, hairless, or hiding my shame. I seek out places in nature where I can be nude whether it's a beach or walking in the woods. ISM is a space that allows me to express myself artistically without feeling exploited or feel like I have the 'wrong' body type. I love seeing all the diverse concepts and bodies, all involved in acts of self-love. Having a degree in photography and being able to shoot what I want to shoot is one of the best things ever. While I always love photographing the world around me, a place to have my work appreciated always helps keep that passion moving ever forward.

Why i shot myself: A space to feel beautiful and have a space to display some of my art as a photographer as well as to feel empowered.

my website/fav website: Everyday Feminism, because progressive news and ideas are so desperately needed.
Most outrageous thing I have done: Spent 10 months traveling with a non-profit program doing community service.
Bands I like: Tom Waits, David Bowie, and Bjork will always make me happy, but I love a lot of punk music with screaming banjos and political undertones.
Books I like: Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, Cunt, All That the Rain Promises and More, Ecotopia, and Cruddy. I seek out a lot of radical and self-sufficiency literature, both fictional and informative.
Films I like: 28 Days Later, The Descent, Hocus Pocus, Shortbus, Wristcutters, Princess Mononoke. I love horror movies with strong women characters and movies that break social norm.
